«Lao Ge» (老葛) is a given name to make communication easier with Chinese friends. "Lao" in Chinese means "old" in the positive sense of an old friend, and "Ge" is simply the beginning of the author's name "Gerhard" which is complicated to speak for Chinese tongues. It can also be taken for "German" - so I'm the old German, which is not so wrong...

About 30% of Germany's area is covered with forests. The intention of these pages is to show some photo impressions of the nature around my home town Bielefeld. The city of Bielefeld is located in the Northwest of Germany - between Hannover (~100km) and Cologne (~150km) and inside a broad valley of the beautiful Teutoburg Forest (German: "Teutoburger Wald"). Due to different grounds the vegetation ist varying from location to location.

After a long pause I re-started with taking photos. In 2010 I acquired a DSLR camera with some lenses and equipment, and began to roam the surrounding forests to gain photo experience. I am building these pages to share the impressions which hopefully become better in quality with the time. The images are usually resized and partly modified with free software.

The link under "Overview Senne" (2010) leads to a different gallery in a separate window. The images there are not sorted or completely modified. That's why there are many...

Meanwhile I use the DSLR rarely because of it's size and weight. Usually I take my small 'Panasonic DMC-TZ8' or 'Fuji Finepix X10' camera with me (see second line in EXIF data below pictures).

The content is intended to grow step by step. There may be a German version later.
